FAQs

Here are some frequently asked question about Lansing Lantino Health Alliance.

What is the Lansing Latino Health Alliance?

The Lansing Latino Health Alliance (LLHA) is a non-profit organization with the mission to improve the health status of Latinos in the greater Lansing area by advocating for meaningful, effective and sustainable policy and systems changes.

What does LLHA do?

LLHA believes that a person or community can improve their health status by being well informed about good health behaviors, nutrition, and healthcare resources and systems. LLHA provides information and opportunities at no charge to the community through instructional presentations, printed information, health screenings, and inoculation clinics.

How/where does LLHA advocate for “policy and systems changes?”

LLHA’s Board of Directors have advocated at legislative hearings, before policy making committees at the local, regional and state levels.

How long has LLHA been around?

LLHA was established in 2003 under the leadership of Dr. José Cuéllar, a Latino researcher, medical professional, Director of the Julián Samora Research Institute of Michigan State University, in close collaboration with Latino leaders from the community and with support from the Ingham County Health Department and the Kellogg Community Voices Project

Is there a charge to become a member of LLHA?

No, it costs nothing to be a member. One simply informs any LLHA Board member and asks to be put on a mailing list to be informed of LLHA activities and events. Also, LLHA accepts volunteers into the Alliance. This is an opportunity to be more involved in community outreach. Volunteers, for example, can help in planning and organizing health events, assist with surveys and research projects, and become a member of the Board of Directors. As is the case with many non-profit organizations, volunteers are the backbone of LLHA. All members of the Board are volunteers.

If there is no charge for membership, how does LLHA sustain itself?

LLHA depends financially on contributions and grants. It is a 501-C-3 organization which, according to IRS rules, means financial gifts to LLHA are tax deductible.

How does one make a contribution to LLHA?

Financial gifts to LLHA can be submitted via check payable to LLHA and mailed to 330 Marshall, #200, Lansing, MI 48912.
