Careers in Healthcare

Searching for a career choice?

Are you looking for a career in which currently, and in the foreseeable future, jobs are going to be plentiful?

A career in healthcare may provide the answers to your questions!

Here are some things that can be said about working in healthcare for the next decade and beyond:

  • It is anticipated that there will be more open positions in healthcare than qualified applicants.

  • It is predicted that earnings of healthcare personnel will increase at a rate higher than in many other fields.

People also wonder about the education and training needed to secure a position in healthcare. How much hard- core science, human biology, chemistry, and math, etc. might be required?  Although a good question for which so me answers can be found by consulting the organizations or institutions that provide training in healthcare, that is a rather limited view of careers available in healthcare.

It is necessary to realize that healthcare positions are found in multiple fields and disciplines. We can no longer think of jobs in healthcare that include only physicians, surgeons, nurses. Healthcare in hospitals, clinics and private practices employ personnel from a variety of fields. For example, local hospitals have positions for persons in the field of Business – accounting, sales, public relations; in Journalism and Advertising – media releases, publications, graphic arts; in Language Specializations – people who don’t speak English also require medical attention. Healthcare organizations are now expected, if requested, to provide care in the languages of their patients.

Also, support staff includes Social Workers, Counselors, Clerical Specialists, IT specialists and technicians.
The main point is that healthcare facilities and practices do not function in a vacuum.

Thus, the question is not exclusively what science, chemistry, math etc. does one needs, but does one’s field of interest and area of expertise fit any of the diverse employment needs in medical healthcare organizations or facilities?
